Purpose and Core Values
Our Purpose
To glorify God by challenging, encouraging, and equipping people to become like Jesus in every vital relationship by loving God, loving others, and influencing others to love God. (Matthew 22:37-39; Matthew 28:18-20)
Our Core Values
Biblical Truth: We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant truth of God. We believe the source of truth is God and that the purpose of truth is that we might know and honor God (1 John 5:11-13). We believe that God's truth is constant, authoritative, and penetratingly relevant to our daily lives (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Transformational Teaching: We believe that God uses His word to convict, challenge, encourage, and change believers. We seek at every level to effectively understand, communicate, and apply the words of scripture to our personal and corporate walk and to pressing cultural issues (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 4:1-2). We also embrace shared, or team teaching, believing that God can use more than one individual to teach His word (Titus 1:9; Mark 6:7).
Authentic Worship: We believe that worship is man's response to God's revelation of Himself and is evidenced by prayer and obedience accompanied by an attitude of reverence and praise (Isaiah 6:1-8). We believe that worship can be expressed through the powerful language of music. We believe that music can celebrate, exalt, revere, honor, and glorify God (Psalm 33:1-5). We believe that genuine worship is displayed in the private and corporate life of the Christian and transforms the believer to become more like Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18; Romans 12:1-2).
Enriching Fellowship: We believe that as the body of Christ the church is a family who seeks to love one another as we are loved by God. We believe we are to encourage and stimulate each other in our desire to be more fully conformed to the image of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18). To that end we value small groups gathered together for biblical purposes that foster biblical fellowship (Hebrews 3:12-13; Hebrews 10:24-25; James 5:16).
Life-Changing Outreach: We believe that people matter to God and therefore should matter to us. God commands us to extend His gospel to others. We believe that obedience to this command results in change in the messenger in that he is more fully conformed to Jesus Christ and in the responder to the gospel in that he becomes a child of God. We desire to engage in local and international missions by means of prayer, financial support, and physical participation. We hope to be sensitive to the many opportunities that exist in our culture for effective communication of the gospel. It is our vision to multiply our impact for Christ in Clark County and abroad by networking with and establishing like-souled churches (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; Acts 17:2-3; Acts 17:23-31).
Shared Service: We believe that Jesus Christ gave His life for an imperfect and unworthy church. We believe that Jesus Christ is worthy of our service and that His sacrificial death on behalf of the church compels us to sacrificially serve the same church for whom He died. We believe that God has given all believers one or more gifts and that we are compelled to exercise those gifts in service to Jesus Christ (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Peter 4:10-11).
Spiritually Nourished Children: We believe that children are valuable to God and a trust bestowed to their families. We are committed to helping families steward their trust wisely by encouraging and equipping parents in the exercise of their responsibilities. We hope to challenge and encourage our students and children to fully follow Jesus Christ and equip them with the tools necessary to follow Christ in an increasingly complex and difficult world (Mark 9:36-37; Ephesians 6:1-4; Colossians 3:20-21).
